As a long-time Genshin Impact player who’s spent over 200 hours exploring Natlan since its 2024 launch, I’ve learned that mastering the region’s unique mechanics and rare resources is key to unlocking its best content. One of the most sought-after local specialties is the Spinel Fruit, a fiery, nutrient-dense material that only grows in Natlan’s Phlogiston Lava Pools—making it both rare and tricky to collect. After dozens of farming runs, I’ve refined a step-by-step route to gather all 15 available Spinel Fruits efficiently, and I’m here to share my tips with fellow travelers.
First, let’s break down what makes Spinel Fruits so valuable. This vibrant, lava-grown material is required to craft the 4-star sword Flute of Ezpitzal from Blacksmith Alom, a weapon with powerful Pyro damage bonuses that’s perfect for characters like Dehya or Bennett. It’s also used in several Natlan-exclusive dishes, including the spicy Lava Fruit Stew that boosts party members’ attack power for 30 minutes. The biggest challenge, though, is its habitat: Spinel Fruits only grow in two specific areas of Natlan, both of which are filled with molten lava that deals continuous HP damage to any character who touches it. The only way to safely navigate these lava pools is to indwell a Koholasaurus, the only creature in Teyvat that can swim through molten rock without harm.
Before you start farming, make sure you’ve unlocked the necessary prerequisites. First, you’ll need to complete the world quest Ripe for Trouble to access the Phlogiston Research Extraction Center, the first of the two Spinel Fruit locations. Second, you’ll need to finish Tracer No Tracing and Seeker No Finding to unlock the underground waypoint in Ameyalco Waters, the second and most abundant Spinel Fruit area. If you haven’t completed these quests yet, prioritize them—they’re quick, rewarding, and will save you hours of frustration trying to access locked areas.
Let’s start with the first farming route: the Phlogiston Research Extraction Center, located in a cave between Tequemecan Valley and Tepeacac Peak.
To begin, teleport to the Blazing Ruins domain and head south on the map to find a hidden cave. Jump down, and you’ll encounter a group of Fatui agents guarding the entrance—defeat them to proceed. Inside, you’ll see a network of pipes and the first cluster of Spinel Fruits growing near the cave’s entrance. Grab these first, then look for a cage holding a Yumkasaur; free it, and use its grappling ability to cross a gap and open a locked gate. This will unlock a permanent waypoint in the research facility, making future runs much faster.
Next, head down the stairs and turn right to find another batch of Spinel Fruits growing near a pipe. The next cluster is directly across, near a cage holding a Tepetlisaur—grab these, then turn left and head toward the large, lava-surrounded machine in the center of the facility. More Spinel Fruits grow around the base of this machine, but be careful: they’re extremely close to the lava, so don’t step too close or you’ll take heavy damage. Once you’ve collected all the fruits here, it’s time to move to the second, more challenging area: Ameyalco Waters.
Ameyalco Waters is home to the majority of Natlan’s Spinel Fruits, but it’s also the most difficult to navigate if you’re not familiar with the Koholasaurus’s abilities.
Start by teleporting to the underground waypoint you unlocked after completing Tracer No Tracing and Seeker No Finding. The first few Spinel Fruits are directly below you, so carefully jump down and grab them—avoid the lava at all costs. Next, look for a Koholasaurus nearby; indwell it, and you’ll be able to swim through the lava safely. Most of the remaining Spinel Fruits are on the same level as the waypoint, but some are on small, isolated lava pools that you can only reach using the Koholasaurus’s jump ability. Use the area’s air currents to propel yourself higher, then jump into the lava pools to collect the fruits. Once you’ve gathered all the fruits in the main lava area, return to the waypoint, turn left, and head up the path—you’ll find a final cluster of Spinel Fruits scattered along the trail.
After completing both routes, you should have all 15 Spinel Fruits available in Natlan. Since the fruits respawn every 3 days (in real time), you can repeat this route regularly to stock up on enough materials to craft the Flute of Ezpitzal and make plenty of lava-grown dishes. Over the past year, I’ve refined this route to take only 15 minutes per run, even for new players who are still learning Natlan’s mechanics. The key is to prioritize unlocking the waypoints first—they cut down travel time drastically—and to practice using the Koholasaurus’s abilities before you start farming, so you don’t waste time fumbling with jumps or grapples.
Farming Spinel Fruits isn’t just about collecting materials—it’s also a great way to explore Natlan’s hidden corners and learn more about its lore. The Phlogiston Research Extraction Center, for example, is filled with notes about Natlan’s ancient connection to Phlogiston, the fiery energy that powers the region’s mechanics. Ameyalco Waters, meanwhile, is a sacred site for Natlan’s Saurian tribes, and you’ll find small shrines and offerings scattered around the lava pools that tell stories of the region’s history. Even after hundreds of hours playing Genshin Impact, I still find new details in these areas every time I farm Spinel Fruits.
If you’re struggling with any part of this route, don’t hesitate to ask for help from other players in your co-op world. Natlan’s community is incredibly welcoming, and many experienced players are happy to show new travelers the ropes. Just remember to respect other players’ worlds—ask permission before collecting resources, and offer to help with their farming routes in return. Over time, you’ll become a Spinel Fruit farming expert, and you’ll be able to enjoy all the rewards that come with mastering Natlan’s most elusive local specialty.
